Linux Cable Card

I really don't know if this will actually happen. It might someday but I think the Linux HTPC programs will need to build in a form of DRM which no open source fan wants to see. One possibility is building an addin card with an SoC from Broadcom with a few mods to MythTV full working CableCard support. CableLabs will always be run by bureaucrats who very political and don't want a viable solution. For now we'll just wait and see.
